Series I-IVPollinators
-
Two iridescent butterflies gather upon a baritone saxophone, a well-groomed bumblebee busily feeds from a sousaphone, and a hovering white-necked jacobin hummingbird sips from a full-bouquet of brass-instruments… with more in the series still unfolding.
Each piece features larger-than-life, anatomically accurate pollinators—such as butterflies, a bumblebee, or hummingbirds—interacting with the flared bells of brass instruments.
Created to celebrate the area’s rich musical legacy and surrounding natural abundance, the series draws a parallel between the rhythms of pollination and the traditions of music-making, inviting viewers to reflect on the harmony between nature and sound, ecology and art. Originally conceived for the historic Cavalier Resort and Embassy Suites in Virginia Beach.
