This piece features a raft of Emperor penguins gathered around a toppled waffle cone and three scoops of ice cream. Blending whimsy with urgency, the piece draws a visual parallel between a vanishing treat and the melting polar ice caps. “Having a Meltdown” invites reflection on climate change and its impact on fragile ecosystems, while offering a memorable, site-specific experience for guests of all ages.

Location: Virginia Beach, VA - Commissioned for an ice cream shop within an oceanfront Marriott resort, this sculpture was developed early in the design process to help shape the space with a playful yet thought-provoking focal point.

Materials: Fiberglass, resin, acrylic & enamel paints, wood, high-density foam, and glass.
